Faith based groups often bring established networks, dedicated volunteers and physical spaces that can support a wide range of community programs, from food assistance to youth activities to aged care. This support extends well beyond their core religious function into the wider practical life of the surrounding community.

Because faith communities often maintain close, ongoing relationships with their members over many years, they can be particularly effective at reaching people who might otherwise be reluctant to engage with government services directly. They offer a familiar and genuinely trusted point of contact instead of an unfamiliar institutional one.

Councils and agencies that build genuine partnerships with faith based groups, respecting their independence while collaborating on shared community goals, often find these relationships considerably extend the reach of prevention and support programs. That extended reach is difficult to achieve through government channels alone, however well funded those channels might otherwise happen to be in any given year.
